Haydn was inspired to write The Creation after witnessing large-scale performances of Handel oratorios, including Messiahand Israel in Egypt, during his visits to London in the 1790s. Composed to a libretto compiled by Baron Gottfried van Swieten, the work was first heard in Vienna in 1799.

This performance is the third in Covent Garden Sinfonia's series of concerts at St John's Smith Square in aid of the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. Bringing together an outstanding line-up of acclaimed soloists - soprano Carolyn Sampson, tenor James Gilchrist and bass Andrew Ashwin - together with acclaimed chamber choir Vox Cordis, this promises to be unforgettable evening.
